Now that the girls have decent Chinese and have watched a number of Chinese themed movies or TV shows, we are returning to reading aloud abridged version of classic Chinese. I think classic Chinese stories use more Chinese word phrases, idioms, and expressions than translated books. 中國傳統故事比翻譯故事用較多的詞語,用語,和成語。
Here, 9 year old “Georgia” is reading 白蛇傳 (Legend of the White Snake) with the tutor.
What are your tutor requirements? Do you look for ones with qualifications in Chinese education or just anyone proficient and can lead in Chinese oriented activities? How often does the tutor come by? I have been thinking about finding a tutor for some time as well. Thanks!

It depends on your children’s particular need at the time. It will have to someone you think is qualified to teach the materials you have in mind. Since most heritage kids don’t get past 4th grade level in Chinese, it would seem that many decent college graduates from Taiwan or China will do a competent job as a tutor.
